Joe McGinty Information
Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Joe McGinty is an American composer, keyboardist, and arranger. While McGinty played keyboards with Robert Hazard in Philadelphia for a while, he is most remembered for his five years with the Psychedelic Furs. He also started the widely-watched tribute series Loser's Lounge. Sid Gold's Request Room, a piano bar in New York City, was co-founded by him and Paul Devitt, the proprietor of Beauty Bar. He is involved in an original production alongside the Duchess and the Fox and vocalist Andrea Diaz.
When McGinty was in high school, he and his mates in South Jersey would jam out on keyboards. The showband "Franco And Mary Jane" asked him to join in 1983. Over two years, McGinty performed four or five sets each night, six nights per week, in casino lounges, Sheratons, and Marriotts nationwide. "Racket Club" was a band he co-founded in 1985 with Franco and Mary Jane; they performed at clubs across Florida. In 1986, "Racket Club" broke up.
McGinty started and now directs the music for the Loser's Lounge tribute series, which features performances by local artists paying tribute to classic pop stars. Loser's Lounge has routinely played to sold-out crowds since its 1993 premiere at Fez with a Burt Bacharach homage. In May 2015, Sid Gold's Request Room first welcomed customers—a piano bar in New York City's Chelsea district with a classic, nostalgic vibe. Every night, you may enjoy live "piano karaoke" performances.
