Jason Samuels Smith (October 4, 1980) is an American director, dance, and choreographer. He was born in New York City. He began his professional career at the Broadway Dance Center in New York City through Frank Hatchett's Professional Children's Program. As a child, he had appearances on Sesame Street and was the understudy for the principal character in the Tony Award-winning Broadway play Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk at the age of 15.
He earned both an Emmy and an American Choreography Award for "Outstanding Choreography." Samuels Smith also earned a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Los Angeles for founding the First Annual Los Angeles Tap Festival in 2003 and a proclamation from the City of Shreveport, Louisiana, establishing April 23 "Jason Samuels Day."
Samuels Smith starred alongside Dean Hargrove in the award-winning short film Tap Heat in 2004. He was also a featured dancer in Outkast's feature film Idlewild, which HBO/Universal Pictures released. He also developed the Debbie Allen Dance Academy's tap dance school in Culver City, California, hosting the annual Los Angeles Tap Festival.
