Houston Winter Invitational Information
College baseball comes to Houston early, thanks to the Houston Winter Invitational. Six colleges and universities, including Astros owner Jim Crane's alma mater, the University of Central Missouri, will compete in a three-day tournament at the Astrodome.
Baseball fans in Warrensburg, Missouri, can cheer for the Mules of NCAA Division II's University of Central Missouri. The squad competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Grant Gavin, a Mule drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 2016, is one of several players making their way through the Minor Leagues of Major League Baseball. Gavin is a member of the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Royals.
Houston Winter Invitational tickets allow you to catch the boys of summer out of season. The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys and the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils are two other teams invited to the winter tournament. Since baseball was introduced to Arkansas-Monticello in 1965, the Boll Weevils have had five players drafted by Major League Baseball. James Eubanks was the first player drafted in 1965 when the Yankees picked him.
Augustana, Maryville, and St. Mary's are among the other colleges that have previously participated in the preseason invitational. Each squad will play three games throughout the tournament against different opponents daily.
