Gwinnett Stripers Information
The Gwinnett Stripers are the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and a Minor League Baseball franchise in the International League (IL). Their home field is Coolray Field in the Atlanta suburb of Lawrenceville, Georgia, in unincorporated Gwinnett County. Because fishing is so popular there, they were called after striped bass. In 2009, upon the relocation of the Richmond Braves from the International League, the franchise was formed.
In 2018, they changed their name to reflect their major league affiliate, the Gwinnett Braves. The Stripers were transferred from the International League to the Triple-A Eastern League in 2021 as part of MLB's reorganization of the Minor League Baseball system; however, in 2022, this league was rechristened the International League. The Stripers are just 35 miles (56 km) from their parent club's home stadium, Truist Park, in Cobb County.
The only minor league teams closer to their major league parent clubs are the St. Paul Saints (12 miles, or 19 km) east of Minneapolis and the Tacoma Rainiers (26 miles, or 42 km) south of Seattle. The Braves and Stripers have been affiliated for 57 seasons (and counting)—the longest-running Triple-A affiliation agreement—as of the 2021 season.
