GMR Grand Prix Information
GMR Grand Prix is an IndyCar Series race located in Speedway, Indiana, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Global Medical Response (GMR) is the corporate sponsor of the race. It was previously known as Grand Prix of Indianapolis (2014), Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis (2015–2016), and INDYCAR Grand Prix (2017-2019). The race takes place in the early weeks of May, with the inaugural race of the series in 2014.
The Grand Prix is meant to serve as a lead-in to the famous Indianapolis 500. Some of the other support races held are Indy Lights, Pro Mazda, and U.S. F2000. The race consists of 80 laps, and it is consistently scheduled for Saturday, two weeks before the Indianapolis 500. The Grand Prix serves as an "opening weekend" for May activities at the venue.
Some of the IndyCar Series's past winners are Simon Pagenaud; Sam Schmidt Motorsports (2014, 2016, 2019), Will Power, Team Penske (2015, 2017, 2018), and Scott Dixon; Chip Ganassi Racing 2020. Most wins as a team are earned by Team Penske (5), whereas most wins as a manufacturer are earned by Chassis: Dallara (6) and Chevrolet (5).
