Gipsy Kings Information
Gipsy Kings is an American band. The current lineup consists of Tonino Baliardo and Nicolas Reyes. Los Reyes began as a gypsy band, performing at events across France, such as weddings, festivals, and even on the streets. The band called themselves the Gipsy Kings because they lived nomadically. Featuring the hits "Djobi Djoba," "Bamboléo," and "Un Amor," Gipsy Kings rose to prominence after the publication of their self-titled third album in 1987 (1989 in the US).
A cover of Frank Sinatra's "My Way" by Gipsy Kings, titled "A Mi Manera," appeared on the band's self-titled album from 1987. They have also worked with other musicians, such as Joan Baez, with whom they performed "Speaking of Dreams" in 1990. From their 1999 album The Captain's Revenge, the Eurodance ensemble recorded the single "Get Up!"
Each member of the band has released a solo album. Boléro was Canut Reyes's debut solo effort, released in 1988. Tonino Baliardo originally released his 2001 instrumental album Essences and re-released it in 2003. With the release of "Viva El Rey Habibna" in 2022, Nicolas Reyes and Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred paid tribute to King Mohammed VI on 30 July's Throne Day.
