Geddy Lee Information
Geddy Lee (July 29, 1953) is a Canadian musician born in North York, Ontario. He used the space underneath his house as a rehearsal area for the band he started with classmates in high school. After the band started making money playing at high school shows and other events, he decided to forgo further education and pursue a career in rock and roll full-time. Rush's professional career started in the late '60s when the band began performing in venues such as coffeehouses, high school dances, and outdoor festivals.
In 2020, Lee sang backup on an all-star Canadian version of "Lean on Me" by the late Bill Withers for the Canadian benefit performance Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble, broadcast simultaneously on all major Canadian television networks to raise money for food banks.
Barenaked Ladies frontman Ed Robertson announced the band's collaboration with Lee on a "secret project" in September 2021. In 2022, he made a cameo appearance on the critically regarded, long-running CBC period drama Murdoch Mysteries, portraying the role of Thomas Sawyer. Lee and Alex Lifeson played "Closer to the Heart" by Rush at the South Park 25th Anniversary Concert in August 2022, alongside members of Primus and South Park co-creator Matt Stone.
