Gary P. Nunn Information
Gary P. Nunn (December 4, 1945) is an American singer and songwriter from Okmulgee, Oklahoma. His music is classified as country and outlaw country. Nunn moved to Brownfield, Texas, when he was in 6th grade and started his musical career as a 7th grader. Nunn joined a garage band in Brownfield, Texas and at the same time, was an all-around athlete and an honor student there. He attended South Plains College and later Texas Tech University. Nunn was also a part of the rock band The Sparkles in the 1960s. In 1968, Nunn attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in pharmacy.
Nunn worked as a pianist for the Lost Gonzo Band, which released six albums through MCA Records with Nunn as a pianist. In 1977, when the band parted ways, Nunn moved to pursue a solo musical career. After moving to a family farm in Oklahoma in 1985, he established the Music Festival and the Terlingua North Chili Cook-Off. Pat Green and Cross Canadian Ragweed are some of the well-known acts that played at the two events early on in their careers.
Nunn's songs have been recorded by well-known national country artists such as Michael Murphey, Tracy Nelson, Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, David Allan Coe, and Rosanne Cash. Nunn has also appeared on various notable shows, including The Nashville Network's Texas Connection, Nashville Now, Austin City Limits, TNN, and Texas Rangers baseball games. Nunn has garnered many prominent awards and honors throughout his career.
