Gaither Vocal Band Information
The Gaither Vocal Band is a southern gospel group that was founded in 1981 by Bill Gaither, of whom the band is named after. The music of the band is defined as Christian, southern gospel, and Contemporary Christian. The current lineup consists of Bill Gaither, Reggie Smith, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, and Todd Suttles. The band is the successor-group of the Bill Gaither Trio. Some of the initial albums by the band are The New Gaither Vocal Band 1981, Passin' The Faith Along 1983, New Point of View 1984, One X 1 1986, Wings 1988, A Few Good Men 1990, Homecoming 1991, and Peace of the Rock 1993.
In the 1980s, The Gaither Vocal Band started recording contemporary Christian music, but after the popularity of the Gaither Homecoming videos, the band became known for southern gospel music. To date, the group has released 29 albums (not including compilations), along with 10 DVDs. The band has three number one songs on the Singing News chart, including "Yes, I Know," "I Will Go On," and "Greatly Blessed."
Some of the notable compilation albums by the band are 1989: The Best from the Beginning, 1994: The King is Coming, 1995: Can't Stop Talkin' About Him, 1999: Classic Moments from the Gaither Vocal Band – Volume 1, 2003: 8 Great Hits, and a few more. A few of The Gaither Vocal Band's Homecoming video performances are 1993: Old Friends: "The Old Gospel Ship," 1999: So Glad!: "Bein' Happy," and 2004: Build A Bridge: "Let Freedom Ring."
The Gaither Vocal Band has received 17 Dove Awards and 2 Grammy Awards.
