The National Institute of Flamenco and the University of New Mexico present the Festival Flamenco Alburquerque every summer. This festival brings some of the world's best flamenco performers to Albuquerque. For eight days, the city becomes a cultural center for flamenco and vibrates to the rhythms of the dance. Flamenco, the magnificent art form, is honored as part of this custom because of its status as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a designation it received from UNESCO in 2005. Flamenco's appeal lies in its ability to probe the breadth of human feeling with an intensity and vitality that holds listeners and pupils alike.
The mission of this undertaking is to disseminate flamenco's rich artistic legacy and cultural significance to audiences worldwide. The presentational side is primarily cultivated for people wanting an aesthetic experience.
