Farnam AQHA World Championship Show Information
The American Quarter Horse Association, or AQHA, was founded in 1940, and the first AQHA World Championship Show did not occur until 1974. Classes were available for professional and amateur exhibitors at the first AQHA World Show, held in Louisville, Kentucky. Founded in 1972 as the American Junior Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show, the American Quarter Horse Youth Association has grown to become one of the largest youth equestrian organizations in the world.
In 1976, the AQHA World Show made its permanent home at the OKC Fairgrounds (formerly known as State Fair Park) in Oklahoma City, where it had been held since 1974. Vickie Lee Pine was the first AQHA Superhorse, a title she earned in 1978. In Ericson, Nebraska, the bay mare was shown by Jim Brinkman in the old mares division, headed and heeled by Pitzer for owner Howard Pitzer. Show ironman is the American Quarter Horse Association's (AQHA) Superhorse. This honor goes to the horse that performs best in three or more competitions.
In 1983, AQHA started awarding an All-Around Amateur championship to the exhibitor and horse that accumulated the most points throughout three or more amateur events. For the AQHA, Lu Ann Paul and Melody Zipper will always be remembered as the first women to win the All-Around Amateur title. The Farnam AQHA World Championship Show will have Farnam as the title sponsor in 2020.
