Faith Ako Information
Faith Ako's life on the north coast of Oahu, Hawaii, inspires her songs. Ms. Esther DeLarosa Macy, who was Ako's music teacher when she was a teenager in La'ie, strongly suggested that she record this song. She did it as a duet with her cousin Joseph Napeahi because this was the first time anyone else on the North Shore had attempted it.
Ako and her 15 siblings were raised on the windward side of Oahu, which is the subject of her fourth and most recent album, "Ku'u 'ina, Aloha." The album features six original pieces that reflect the artist's desire to include "the fragrances, the sounds, the sights, and the beauty of the islands" into her music. She also made sure to include some of the hula classics she loves the most. For more than two decades, Ako's powerful voice, charming personality, and enthusiasm for Hawaiian music have made her the Bay Area's go-to female artist in Traditional/Contemporary Hawaiian music.
Ako has spent her entire life performing in front of audiences with her voice and instrument. As a young girl growing up in Hawai'i, she was influenced by both her native music and the sounds of Rock 'n' Roll and Motown. Ako, a native Hawaiian who has lived in the Bay Area since the 1980s, has played in several local Hawaiian bands and launched a solo career in 2007.
