Eva Schloss Information
Eva Schloss (May 11, 1929) is an Austrian-English memoirist and Holocaust survivor born in Vienna, Austria. Heinz, her older brother, was born the same year. Her family left Austria shortly after its absorption by Nazi Germany in 1938, first moving to Belgium and then the Netherlands. They shared an Amsterdam apartment building and were close friends from 11 to 13.
After being taken by Nazi's, she and her mother were rescued by troops in 1945. They went back to Amsterdam, where Schloss and her mom reconnected with Otto Frank, who was still reeling from the deaths of his wife and children and the finding of Anne Frank's diary.
Elfriede Schloss' (1905-1998) mother married Otto Frank in November 1953. She continued her education at the University of Amsterdam, where Schloss majored in art history. Afterward, she left for a yearlong photography course in England. Zvi Schloss, a Jewish refugee from Germany whose father was imprisoned at the Dachau concentration camp, was living in Palestine when they met and eventually married her. They eventually made England their permanent home and became British citizens.
