Ensemble Intercontemporain Information
The EIC stands for the French group known as the Ensemble Intercontemporain. There are now 31 permanent soloists in the EIC. They are active because there is a demand for musicians versed in the novel performing skills and compositional approaches characteristic of this genre—the French Ministry of Culture and the city of Paris fund the Ensemble's operations. Matthias Pintscher and Julien Leroy lead the group in residence at the Philharmonie de Paris.
After performing Boulez's Sur Incises at London's Barbican Hall in April 2015, the Ensemble intercontemporain posed for a photo. About thirty times a year, the EIC performs in their hometown, and they also travel frequently, giving concerts all across France and the world, notably at international festivals. New works are frequently premiered during these performances, focusing on showcasing the work of emerging composers who still need to have their music played by the Ensemble.
Composers like Boulez, György Ligeti, György Kurtág, Alejandro Romero, Roberto Carnevale, and Ivan Fedele are just a few of the more than two thousand contemporary works in the Ensemble's repertoire. Many of these pieces have been recorded.
