Eliza Reid Information
Eliza Jean Reid (May 5, 1976) is a Canadian-Icelandic writer. She was born in Ottawa, Ontario. In 1998, Reid oversaw a student volunteer program at Toronto's SickKids Hospital and later worked as a Red Cross volunteer in Iceland. After that, from 1999 to 2003, Reid was in sales, and from 2003 to 2004, he was in marketing.
After relocating to Iceland in 2003, Reid contributed articles to several local periodicals. From 2005 to 2008, she contributed to The Reykjavik Grapevine and Iceland Review before joining Icelandair Stopover's editorial staff in 2012. In 2014, she co-founded the Iceland Writers Retreat, which has since received widespread recognition. She was a member of the 2018 National Award for Canadian Nonfiction jury in British Columbia. Multiple Icelandic media have chosen Eliza as their 'Person of the Year' nominee.
Sourcebooks in the United States and Simon & Schuster in Canada published her book "Secrets of the Sprakkar: Iceland's Extraordinary Women and How They Are Changing the World" in 2022. The book was announced in October 2020. Reid wed historian Guni Th. Jóhannesson, who in 2016 was elected president of Iceland. They've raised a brood of four kids as a couple. The Canadian author Iain Reid has a sister named her.
