When it comes to Latin music, El Yaki, a musician from Mexico, needs no introduction. Ernesto Juarez Lopez was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, in 1965 and started playing in bands there when he was just 15 years old. El Yaki's 1991 CD La Voz de la Experiencia was his first as a solo artist after years of performing with several local groups.
Since then, he's released many albums that have received glowing reviews. Combining traditional Mexican music with modern pop, rock, and reggae makes El Yaki's music so special. El Yaki has been recognized for his work throughout his career, with multiple award nominations and numerous wins.
El Yaki en Vivo, his live CD, was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Best Rock CD category 1998. In 2006, with his album Todos Los Caminos, he was awarded the Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. In addition to his five Latin Billboard Music Awards and two Grammy Award nominations (2004 and 2011), he has also been nominated for a Grammy.
