Eddy Raven Information
Edward Garvin Futch (August 19, 1944), professionally known as Eddy Raven, is an American country music singer and songwriter from Lafayette, Louisiana. Initially, Raven considered a professional baseball career but later changed his mind after breaking his ankle. Cajun music was the primary musical influence for Raven and the country music sounds from popular radio broadcasts such as the New Orleans blues and Louisiana Hayride.
In 1962, Raven self-released the single named "Once a Fool," which was credited to "Eddy Raven" due to a printing error, but Futch decided to keep this as his stage name. Eddy began to work at a recording studio called La Louisianne Records and its outlet, The Music Mart. This was where he recorded and released his first album entitled That Cajun Country Sound. His sound was heard by fellow Cajun country musician Jimmy C. Newman, who advised him to move to Nashville, Tennessee.
Eddy Raven has written singles for various country music artists, including Jeannie C. Riley, Don Gibson, Connie Smith, and Randy Cornor. Some of his other notable albums are This Is Eddy Raven (1976), Eyes (1980), Desperate Dreams (1981), Love and Other Hard Times (1985), and Right for the Flight (1991). "I Got Mexico" (1984), "Shine, Shine, Shine" (1987), "Joe Knows How to Live" (1988), and "Bayou Boys" (1989) are some of the number one hits on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs by Raven.
