Ed Yong Information
Ed Yong (December 17, 1981) is a British-American science journalist. He was born in Malaysia. Yong moved to the UK in 1994 when he was only 13. In 2005, he was sworn in as a British citizen. Yong attended Pembroke College, Cambridge, earning her BA and MA in natural sciences (zoology) in 2002. After completing his graduate work at UCL in biochemistry in 2005, he received a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree.
As practiced by Yong, popular science writing has been called "the future of science news," and he has won multiple honors for his efforts. Yong's previous work includes the defunct blog Not Exactly Rocket Science, which he started and wrote for National Geographic Phenomena.
In 2010, Yong was honored by the National Academy of Sciences with the National Academies Communication Award for his online journalism. That same year, he also won three awards from ResearchBlogging. This organization promotes online science journalism that focuses on adapting research originally published in peer-reviewed scientific journals for a general audience.
He was honored with the Stephen White Award from the National Union of Journalists in 2012. In 2014, the Association of British Science Writers recognized his blog as the first Best Science Blog award recipient.
