William Omar Landrón Rivera (February 10, 1978) is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer better known as Don Omar. From music reviewers to fans, he's hailed as the "King of Reggaeton" also. Magazines like Rolling Stone and Billboard acknowledged the performer as a Reggaeton icon. Many other Hispanic urban artists look up to him as an inspiration.
He helped introduce reggaeton to listeners worldwide and is widely considered a major force in the genre's meteoric rise to fame. Ten times, twice, The Last Don, his debut studio album, was out in 2003, and he shot to fame. The RIAA awarded the album gold certification based on 411,000 US unit sales.
Following a lengthy career, he announced his retirement from music on September 1, 2017. His last performances were on December 15, 16, and 17 at Puerto Rico's José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum. But on April 20, 2019, he released a single titled "Ramayana" that included Farruko, marking his comeback to the music industry.
Many honors were bestowed upon Don Omar over his career. These included 3 Latin Grammy Awards, one Billboard Music Award, 17 Billboard Latin Music Awards, three Lo Nuestro Awards, and eight Viña del Mar International Song Festival Awards.
In addition to his work in the Fast & Furious movie, Don Omar has also played Rico Santos. He made his film debut in Fast & Furious (2009) and has since reprised the role in Fast Five (2011), F9 (2017), and The Fate of the Furious (2021).
