Don Burnstick Information
Don Burnstick is a Cree member from the Alexander First Nation in Alberta, Canada, just outside Edmonton. Burnstick, the 15th, and last kid, learned resilience through adversity on the reserve and the use of his innate sense of humor. He was exposed to a cycle of violence and substance abuse throughout his youth. Burnstick earned a master's degree in holistic urban youth development from the University of San Diego.
He has completed the Nechi Institute's Native Trainers Development program in Edmonton and is a certified alcohol and drug abuse counselor. For over 30 years, he's been a part of the health and wellness revolution, sharing his unique brand of humor and performance art to promote a more rounded recovery method.
His words emphasize family history, the curative power of humor, and his unwavering commitment to bettering the world for the next generation. A one-person show titled "I Am Alcohol - Healing the Wounded Warrior," which Burnstick authored and performed. Without resorting to moralizing, Burnstick delivers a fascinating portrayal of the devastating power of alcohol and drugs and their links to other negative forces that have plagued Indigenous communities.
