CSUN Youth Orchestra Information
California State University supports these three amazing youth groups and is a great way for young musicians to gain experience. Their live performances will be a treat for music lovers. The fine arts have always been strongly promoted at California State University, Northridge. Their dedication to encouraging young people to play music is exemplified through the CSUN Youth Orchestras.
The CSUN Youth Orchestras date back to 1970 when they were first established as the Valley Young People's Orchestra. The three current ensembles are the CSUN Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, the CSUN Symphony Orchestra, and the CSUN Camerata Strings. Over two hundred young people are selected yearly to participate in these highly selective ensembles. Disney Hall in Los Angeles is one of three main concert venues used throughout the season.
The Plaza del Sol Performance Hall and the Valley Performing Arts Center host most of CSUN's on-campus concerts. Classical chamber music and masterworks from composers like Rossini's William Tell Overture and Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F will be performed for the audience.
