He attended Mumford High School and obtained his bachelor's degree in communication studies from Michigan State University. In college, he joined the fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi. In 2010, after spending some time in the advertising industry, Powell decided to switch gears and focus on a career in the show business. After posting hilarious videos online, he began hosting a monthly comedy event at Saint Andrew's Hall called "The CP Show," which helped him earn even more notoriety.
Powell landed his first TV gig, a recurring part on Empire, in 2015. Powell was also allowed to appear on HBO's All Def Comedy with a stand-up performance (2016). Powell played a supporting part during the second season of the HBO Max series Love Life (2021).
