Chaz Cardigan (January 20, 1995) is an American alternative rock artist and singer. He was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. After hearing "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, he became fixated on pursuing a music career. While performing in local punk rock bands, he taught himself how to produce and record at 11. He attempted to gain attention by posting demos on Myspace and sending cassette tapes to record labels in the hopes of landing a record deal.
Cardigan attended Elizabethtown High School for most of his adolescence while commuting daily to Nashville to seek a profession as an artist. Cardigan supported himself in Music City by taking "every part-time job you can think of" and polishing his production chops as a member of the hip-hop ensemble The Diatribe. In 2015, he experienced homelessness for a short time before moving in with and playing bass for the rock band Safe Secrets. In 2016, he dropped his first single as Spazz Cardigan, followed by his debut studio album I.
Independently, the album was made available to the public on January 20, 2017. After the album dropped in 2017, he was asked to play several unauthorized showcases at SXSW. Cardigan established himself as a mainstay of the burgeoning Nashville pop music industry. Throughout 2018, he released a string of singles independently, appearing on Spotify's New Music Friday editorial playlist. These songs got a million streams within eight months.
