Charleston Battery Information
One American soccer club that calls Charleston, South Carolina, home is the Charleston Battery, and they play in the USL Championship. Along with the Richmond Kickers, the Battery is two of the oldest American professional soccer clubs in continuous operation since its founding in 1993.
With three USL A-League titles under their belts (2003), a USISL Pro League in 1996, and a 2010 USL Second League championship, Charleston is among the more successful lower-league soccer clubs in the US. The club won its fourth USL Pro Championship in 2012, continuing its impressive winning streak. With nine victories under their belts, Charleston has also dominated the unofficial Southern Derby competition.
Charleston Battery plays its home games in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, at Patriots Point Soccer Complex. On Daniel Island in Charleston, the club used to play their home games at the soccer-specific MUSC Health Stadium from 1999 to 2019. The home uniforms have the team's classic red color scheme, while the away uniforms feature black and yellow. Mike Anhaeuser was in charge of the team as head coach and general manager from 2004 until 2021.
