Carlos Vives (August 7, 1961) is a Colombian actor, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Santa Marta, Colombia. Vives is among the most successful Latin music performers ever, with over 20 million records sold worldwide. By fusing traditional vallenato music with pop/rock, he created a subgenre known as "vallenato-pop" and is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential artists in the world.
In 2020, he joined a long list of notable musicians, including Diego Torres, Lali, Coti, Angela Torres, Thala, Camila's Mario Domm, Sin Bandera's Leonel Garcia, Reik's Jess Navarro, Ro Roma, Carlos Rivera, and many more. The April 2021 collaboration between Vives and Ricky Martin on "Canción Bonita" was widely praised for successfully blending Colombian and Puerto Rican musical traditions. At the 2021 Latin Grammys, the song was up for Song of the Year and Best Pop Song.
His performance of Lin-Manuel Miranda's "Colombia, Mi Encanto" during the film's end credits in November 2021's "Encanto" made him a featured artist. Vives sang the theme song "Tumbando Muros" and two more songs for the Disney+ show "The Low Tone Club" in 2023. In addition, Vives composed all of the music for the performance.
