Smash It Demolition Derby is responsible for organizing a demolition derby in Topeka, Kansas, called the Capital City Carnage Demo Derby. Since the year 1998, the organization has been running demolition derbies. They began with eight different derbies at various county fairs, and their operations have steadily grown since that time. Each year, the prizes in their demolition derbies can reach far into the hundreds of thousands of dollars range. In a typical year, 250 and 300 drivers compete in the Capital City Carnage Demo Derby. More than $60,000 worth of prize money will be given out to the top performers.
Roll cages and the fans' favorite flashy paint schemes are surely present on these customized cars, used in the extreme motorsport known as drifting. This derby features seven distinct classes of vehicles, each subject to a unique set of regulations that must be adhered to keep the competition safe. In addition to the myriad of other safety measures that have been taken, all automobiles that will participate in the derby must have their interiors, plastic, and glass removed.
