Concha Buika is the daughter of the late writer Juan Balboa and Honorina Buika; she was born to them on May 11, 1972, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Boré Buika is an actor who has appeared in TV shows like Ada and El Secreto de Puente Viejo and movies like Palmeras en la nieve, Villaviciosa de al lado, and Seor, dame Paciencia; their sibling Guillermo "Guillem" Balboa was born in Equatorial Guinea and is the current alcalde of Alaró.
Her brother Armando Buika acted in both the film "Stop Over in Hell" and the television series "Aguila Roja." Her parents and older brother Guillem emigrated to Spain from Equatorial Guinea in 1969, three years before Buika was born. She is presently resident in Miami, Florida, USA. Cerys Matthews' R6 Broadcast from WOMAD 2016 featured Concha Buika. Singer, poet, composer, and music producer Buika does it all. Her sound is eclectic, incorporating elements of jazz, flamenco, pop, soul, and even African polyrhythm.
She felt nobody wanted a female drummer in Spain, so she switched to singing after starting as a drummer and bassist. Later, in the late 1990s, Buika became well-known due to his performances of coplas in Madrid's nightclubs. Numerous artists, including Nina Simone, Chavela Vargas, Cesaria Evora, Billie Holiday, and Amy Winehouse, have praised her voice and style.
