Bucknell Bison Football Information
The Bucknell Bison football team competes in NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (previously Division I-AA) collegiate football for Bucknell University. Bucknell belongs to the Patriot League. Bucknell defeated the Miami Hurricanes 26–0 in the first Orange Bowl on January 1, 1935. The Bucknell football team was formed in 1883. The Lewisburg team was defeated 59–0, and they did not play again until 1887.
Bucknell enjoyed its first of three unbeaten seasons in 1918. Clarke Hinkle led Bucknell to a 6–0–3 record in 1931. The team won their first Lambert Cup in 1960. Christy Mathewson–Memorial Stadium, which was recently restored, was renamed in Mathewson's honor in 1989. Bucknell won its first conference championship in 1996. Bucknell football won for the seventh consecutive year in 2001.
