Brujeria Information
Brujeria is an American extreme metal band. The current lineup of the group consists of La Bruja Encabronada, Hongo Jr., El Criminal, El Sangron, Pinche Peach, Hongo, and Juan Brujo. In 1989, Brujeria came together at a house party to form a grindcore and death metal band that would serve as a voice for the Latino/Chicano community. Dino Cazares (guitar), Jello Biafra (vocals), Pat Hoed (drums), Billy Gould (bass), and Juan Brujo (vocals) all went by aliases because they also played in other bands.
Their debut song, "Demoniaco!" came out in 1990. The band's first lineup shift occurred around the time of the publication of "Machetazos" in 1992. After Jello Biafra's departure, the band welcomed new singer Pinche Peach and drummer Raymond Herrera, while Pat Hoed switched to singing duties. Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles was responsible for producing and distributing the albums Machetazos (1993) and El Patrón (1994).
The band's songs about drugs, sex, and Satanism were met with criticism from the beginning. Adolfo Constanzo, a Cuban-American-born Mexican drug smuggler, practitioner of Palo Mayombe, and serial killer, was an inspiration for the band.
