Blackmores Night Information
Blackmore's Night is a British-American neo-medieval folk rock band. The current lineup of the group consists of Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night. Rainbow devotee Candice Night met Ritchie Blackmore in 1989 when she was working at a radio station in New York and asked him for an autograph. In 1991, the two began sharing a home and quickly found a shared love for Renaissance music.
The song "Play Minstrel Play," from their successful debut record Shadow of the Moon, featured Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull on flute. There was more of an emphasis on rock guitar in the music while still adhering to a folk rock orientation in later albums, especially Fires at Midnight. Night is a talented singer and an accomplished instrumentalist with a command of a broad range of Renaissance instruments.
The group performs in historic settings for an audience typically attired in period garb at Renaissance fairs and festivals and in stand-alone concert tours at suitable locations, such as "castle tours" of Europe. The duo's success has inspired many foreign tribute bands, such as Renaissance Night, the Italian Morning Star, The Midnight, and Elflore.
