Beauty and the Beast Jr. is an American musical. The music for this show was produced by Alan Menken, while Linda Woolverton wrote the book. Tim Rice and Howard Ashman produced the lyrics. Walt Disney Pictures’ Academy adapted this musical.
Beauty and the Beast is a story of a cold-blooded prince. The prince transformed magically into a creature that was a punishment due to his selfish ways. The only way for the prince to get back to his reasonable condition is; he just fell in love with a bright and beautiful young woman whom he had imprisoned in his castle before turning into a beast.
Beauty and the Beast completed many tryouts in Houston and eventually premiered on Broadway on April 18, 1994, at the Palace Theatre. Terrence Mann and Susan Egan starred as the Beast and Belle, respectively. The opening of the musical was a massive commercial success. The musical ran on Broadway for thirteen years approx, and more than 5,400 performances had taken place to date. This achievement made the musical to be the most length longest-running production in the history of Broadway.
Beauty and the Beast had performed four national tours across the United States. The show has been performed in more than 30 countries all around the world and got much recognition and popularity due to its unique story.
Beauty and the Beast Jr. is another version of the same musical. It is for high and middle school students. MTI published the junior version. This version included only selected songs such as Belle, Home, Gaston, Be Our Guest, Something There, Human Again, and a few more from the original musical.
