Be More Chill is a musical that has original music with lyrics by Joe Iconis. The book of this musical was written by Joe Tracz, which is based on the novel from 2004 of the same name, written by Ned Vizzini. The musical premiered Off-Broadway in 2018. On February 13, 2019, the Broadway production had begun previewing it but opened the musical officially on March 10, 2019. The production by Broadway was closed on August 11, 2019.
Be More Chill premiered on May 30, 2015, at the Two River Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey. It ran until June 28, 2015. Stephen Brackett directed the production of the musical. Orchestration features were carried out by Charlie Rosen. Music of the Be More Chill was directed by Nathan Dame. Chase Brock looked after the choreography section.
The cast of the Be More Chill included Will Connolly (Jeremy), Eric William Morris (The Squip), George Salazar (Michael), and Stephanie Hsu (Christine). The cast also included a few other big-name artists such as Paul Whitty, Kaitlyn Carlson, Gerard Canonico, Jake Boyd, Lauren Marcus, and Katie Ladner.
Be More Chill has won several awards and has been nominated many times from the day it released. A few notable awards that have been won by the musical include Broadway.com Audience Awards for the category of Favorite New Musical, Favorite Featured Actress in a Musical, Favorite Funny Performance, and Favorite Onstage Pair in 2019. Be More Chill won 10 out of 14 awards in Theatre Fan’s Choice Awards in 2019. The musical has successfully built a massive fan base in the United States.
