Ballet Theatre of Ohio Information
Ballet Theatre Ohio is an American-based ballet company founded by Christine Meneer in 1993. The company originated from and is based in Ohio. Christine is also the Artistic Director of BTO. She took her early ballet training with Heinz Poll, who was the founder of Ohio Ballet. Meneer also danced several seasons with Ohio Ballet. Not only this, but she performed with Pennsylvania Ballet as well. Meneer started her ballet school in 1984 named Meneer School of Dance. The school specialized in training children aged 3 to 18 years in classical ballet art. Since she has founded Ballet Theatre Ohio, Meneer has choreographed no less than six full-length ballets for the company.
Meneer also choreographed the critically acclaimed holiday tradition for the Ballet Theatre Ohio named, The Nutcracker. It has completed just the 28th successful run at the Akron Civic Theatre. In May 2018, Meneer premiered her sixth full-length ballet. It was entitled, The Little Mermaid. She also serves as the resident costume designer for the Ballet Theatre of Ohio.
Ms. Meneer was chosen by the Akron Area Arts Alliance in 2007 to receive the Outstanding Artist in Dance award. Peg’s Foundation also awarded Meneer in 2015 with the Impact Award for Excellence in Arts. All the professional dancers of BTO productions receive their training from Christine Meneer.
