Badlands Information
Badlands is a Swedish solo musical act name used by Catharina Jaunviksna, a Swedish producer, songwriter, sound designer, and songwriter. She is currently based in Malmo. Jaunviksna’s sound is inspired by early The Hacienda’s heyday and new wave and the music that can further be described as club beats, organic pop orchestration, gritty guitars, and space-age fables told through analog synths. Badlands has been operating since 2011. During her early year, she was shaped by DIY scenes, hardcore, and pink.
Badlands released her debut EP entitled Battles Within in 2012. It was followed by her next release named Tutu, in 2013. In 2016, she came up with a critically acclaimed album entitled Locus. Jaunviksna is also a touring musician who has a strong kinship with the vivid electro community in Dublin, Ireland. She is also the founder of the production company and record label, RITE, based in Malmo, Sweden.
Badlands composes her commissioned original music and the sound designs for theater and film on a very regular basis. Other notable releases by Jaunviksna include Caramisou (single, 2016), Echo (single, 2016), Hearts (single, 2019), Fantasma I / Fantasma II (double single, 2020), Hearts featuring J. Cowhie (single, 2020), Southbound Call (single, 2021), Out of Reach (single, 2021), and Djinn (album, 2021).
