Atlanta Open Tennis Information
The Atlanta Open, a prestigious men's tennis event, has occurred in the greater Atlanta region of Georgia every summer since 2010. As the first event in the seven-week summer season that precedes the U.S. Open, this tournament takes place on outdoor hard courts and is put on by the US Tennis Association (USTA). After shifting to Atlanta in 2009, the tournament left its 1988 home in Indianapolis.
Before BB&T became the title sponsor of the Atlanta Open in 2012, the tournament was known as the Atlanta Tennis Championships for its first two years. After being owned by the USTA for a while, GF Sports bought the tournament in 2015. The Atlanta Open singles was mostly a U.S. affair for the first half of the tournament's history.
John Isner, Andy Roddick, and Mardy Fish were the only males to win the tournament until Australian Nick Kyrgios beat Isner in the 2016 final. Isner, a former Georgia Bulldog and a fan favorite in the area holds the tournament records for most final appearances (9) and most titles (6). From 2014 until 2022, Eddie Gonzalez oversaw the tournament operations at the Atlanta Open.
