Amy Speace Information
Amy Speace is an American folk-Americana essayist, singer, and songwriter. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Her singing has been praised by publications as diverse as The New York Times, NPR, The Sunday London Times, Mojo Magazine, etc., and she is a former Shakespearean actress. Weight of the World, written by Speace, was covered by Judy Collins, who included it on her CD Paradise in 2010. She has performed alongside such luminaries as Guy Clark, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Judy Collins, and many more on her lengthy tours throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
She has performed at the likes of the Cambridge Folk Festival and the Glastonbury Music Festival, among others. Four times, she has been featured on Mountain Stage Radio. Speace is also a member of the non-profit organization SongwritingWith: Soldiers, where he writes songs to aid in the healing of war survivors. A 2017 CD honoring Mark Heard's music, "Treasure Of The Broken Land: The Songs Of Mark Heard," features a cover version of "House of Broken Dreams" by Speace.
The Americana Music Association presented Amy Speace with the "International Song of the Year" award in 2020 for the title track from her most recent record, "Me and the Ghost of Charlemagne" (Proper Records). Together with engineer Thomm Jutz, she has created music by artists like RJ Cowdrey, Alicia Viani, and Lyn Koonce. In 2019, "What If This Is All There Is" by RJ Cowdrey spent a few weeks in the Top 10 of the Folk Radio Charts.
