AJJ - Andrew Jackson Jihad Information
Andrew Jackson Jihad, or AJJ, is an American folk-punk band from Phoenix, Arizona, initially formed in 2004. The theme of their lyrics takes on politics, existentialism, addiction, religion, humanity, poverty, and shyness. The current lineup of the band includes Sean Bonnette (acoustic guitar and lead vocals), Ben Gallaty (backing vocals, double bass, and bass guitar), Peston Bryant (keyboards, backing vocals, and lead guitar), and Mark Glick (cello).
Sean Bonnette, Ben Gallaty, and Justin James are the founding members of the group. Their first LP was entitled “Candy Cigarettes & Cap Guns,” which was released through the Audioconfusion Manifesto label in 2005. The band has played as a part of the 2006 New Times Music Showcase and was nominated for the Best Americana Band. Later that year, AJJ won the Best of Phoenix award. The band toured the United States with Blunt Mechanic, the west coast with Royal Monsters, and Europe with Kepi Ghoulie in 2010. The following year they went on their second European tour.
Andrew Jackson Jihad has played festivals such as Plan-It-X Fest and the Asian Man Records 15th Anniversary. The band has worked with several record labels to date, such as SideOneDummy – Asian Man, No Idea, Art of the Underground, Traffic Street, Suburban Home, Silver Sprocket Bicycle Club, Lauren Records, and Specialist Subject Records. AJJ has released several studio albums released so far, including People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World, Knife Man, Can’t Maintain, and Christmas Island.
