Adrianne Pieczonka Information
Adrianne Pieczonka (March 2, 1963) is a Canadian operatic soprano singer born in Poughkeepsie, New York, and grew up in Burlington, Ontario. Pieczonka graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1985 and in1988 from the Opera School of the University of Toronto. She later made her professional debut with the Canadian Opera Company singing The Female Prisoner in Lady Macbeth of Mtensk of Shostakovich. The same year, she moved to Europe and won first place at the International Vocal Competition Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands.
Pieczonka eventually moved to London in 1995, where she made her British debut at Glyndebourne as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. She also made her debut at the Royal Opera House as Donna Anna in 2002. She made another debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2004. In 2005, she moved back to Toronto and began performing regularly with the Canadian Opera Company.
Her notable discographies include Adrianna Pieczonka sings Wagner & Strauss (2006), Adrianne Pieczonka sings Puccini (2009), Adrianne Piezonka sings Strauss, Wagner, Brian Zeger (2015), and Erich Wolfgang Korngold (2015).
The album Adrianna Pieczonka Sings Wagner and Strauss was nominated at the 2007 Juno Awards for Classical Albums of the Year – Vocal or Choral Performances. She won the Juno Award in 2010 for best vocals album of the year for Puccini on the Orfeo label. In 2014, the Paul de Hueck and Norman Walford Career Achievement Award from the Ontario Arts Foundation were awarded to her as well.
