Zorya Ukrainian Dancers Information
In 1997, the foundation of the Zorya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble was laid thanks to the initiative of 14 dedicated individuals. The name "Zorya" was selected since it denotes "Stars" in its translated form. The young dancers hoped to make a name for themselves with their Ukrainian dance and cultural expertise. Their goal was to share their enthusiasm for Ukrainian dancing with the people of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and beyond.
The original members worked hard to keep to the Ukrainian dance traditions while giving the dance scene in Thunder Bay a fresh lease on life. The Zorya Ensemble went from 14 to 60 dancers in just four years, giving birth to the Zorya Ukrainian Dance Association in 1998. Over 200 dancers have passed through Zorya's doors in the previous 21 years, and the company anticipates many more.
Throughout their history, the Zorya Ukrainian Dancers have made it a point to share their passion for Ukrainian culture with audiences in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and beyond. The band has brought its infectious energy to a wide variety of Thunder Bay functions, including weddings, senior centers, festivals (like Folklore Festival and Summer in the Parks), charity events (like Children for Chernobyl), and, of course, the annual Malanka celebrations and Zorya end-of-the-year concert.
