Stomp Information
Stomp (sometimes styled as STOMP) is a rhythmic ensemble from Brighton, England. The band produces a physical theater performance out of rhythms, acrobatics, and pantomime using just the human body and other materials. Steve McNicholas and Luke Cresswell developed Stomp in 1991. The performers play percussion instruments made of everyday household items in their presentations.
In 1981, Cresswell and McNicholas collaborated as performers in the theater troupe Cliff Hanger and the street band Pookiesnackenburger. Throughout the early 1980s, at the Edinburgh Festival, these groups put up a series of street comedy musicals.
The New York production of Stomp reached the 5,000-performance milestone in 2006. Directed by Cresswell and McNicholas in the same year, "Stomp Out Litter" is a television public service advertisement that shows the actors "sweeping up" at several New York City landmarks. A film shot in IMAX 3D on the 2008 South African sardine run was also in production.
American Dad! included Stomp as a plot point in July 2019. After receiving a significant fortune from his uncle's passing, Stan Smith purchases the rights to the Broadway musical Stomp, much to the chagrin of his family, who had planned on using the money to take a vacation to New York City.
