The Slutcracker Information
The Slutcracker is a burlesque performance and satirical version of The Nutcracker, a dance musical from 1892. Vanessa White, the head of the Lipstick Criminals group, made it. Two cities in Canada—Montreal and Somerville—have had performances of it.
In this rendition of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet, a young woman has a sexual awakening during a dreamlike scene around the holidays. The show has acrobats, belly dancers, drag kings, hoopers, ballerinas, burlesque, and tango dancers.
In the novel, a newly engaged adult couple (Clara and Fritz) and their buddy (Drosselmeyer) exchange presents on Christmas Eve. Instead of the "nutcracker doll" that the godfather in Tchaikovsky's original narrative presents to his niece, this buddy decides to give Clara an oscillator so that she may self-stimulate herself.
In December 2008, the musical started its first holiday run at Greater Boston's esteemed Somerville Theatre. The first four performances in the 900-seat theater were sold out, proving the show's success exceeded expectations. Two further programs were later added.
The number of performances in 2009 was twice as high as in 2008. The play has been running at the Somerville Theater every December for longer and longer runs since its 2008 debut. It has expanded its tour to include performances in Montreal's theater sector in January after the holidays. In 2010, the tour stopped in Montreal twice and Boston sixteen times.
