Saint Louis Ballet's goal is to provide a resident professional ballet company that gives high-quality performances of classical and modern ballets for the community's cultural enrichment and entertainment. The mission of Saint Louis Ballet is to elevate the art form of ballet and foster an appreciation for the performing arts in the region through productions of the highest artistic caliber in the genres of classical, neoclassical, and contemporary ballet, as well as through community outreach and education programs. Saint Louis Ballet, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit company, was founded in 1975 to promote ballet in St. Louis.
Saint Louis Ballet was a small civic company that occasionally hired guest artists and staged one production per year until Gen Horiuchi came on board as Executive and Artistic Director in 2000. Since then, the organization has grown into a resident ballet company that employs 21 professional, paid dancers and stages five artistic productions each season (20-25 public performances) at the 1,600-seat, state-of-the-art Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri. Over 17,500 people attend Saint Louis Ballet shows each year.
