Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Information
The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (PBT) is a professional dance group in the US. Its main office is in the Strip District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1969, it was established. In 1969, Loti Falk, a Yugoslavian choreographer and founding board chair, and Nicolas Petrov, the company's artistic director, established Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.
Orr and Libman started commissioning modern ballets in 2000, influenced by American music. The artists who contributed to these ballets included Stanley Turrentine, Ray Brown, Lena Horne, Billy Strayhorn, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul Simon.
The Nutcracker, a performance by Orr that drew inspiration from Pittsburgh, premiered in 2002. With an endowment of $9.4 million in 2003, Steven Libman resigned as managing director in June 2004. In 2006, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre launched a fundraising effort to reinstate the ballet orchestra, and Harris N. Ferris was named executive director.
Orr stepped down as Artistic Director in June of 2020. After serving as Artistic Director from 2020 to 2022, Susan Jaffee stepped down to take over American Ballet Theatre. Jaffee had previously been a master dancer with ABT.
Harris Ferris served as executive director for fifteen years until deciding to leave in June 2022. Adam W. McKinney filled the position of Artistic Director in March 2023.
