Oklahoma City Ballet Information
The Oklahoma City Ballet is a school and company of professional dancers based in Oklahoma City. The company was founded in the Science and Arts Foundation building on the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds by Yvonne Chouteau and Miguel Terekhov, Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo dancers.
For almost 40 years since its founding in 1963, Oklahoma City Ballet has provided professional ballet training to its residents. In 2019, thirty dancers from all around the globe made up the Civic Center Music Hall's permanent dance troupe.
Under Robert Mills's direction as Artistic Director, the Oklahoma City-based theater company stages five mainstage shows each season and takes them on tour around the state.
Bojan Spassoff and Stephanie Wolf-Spassoff, dancers with the American Ballet Theatre, took over as company directors in 1979. At this point, the group was transitioning from a civic to a semi-professional status, and they were now producing three plays every season in addition to The Nutcracker.
The company relocated to a freshly rebuilt building in the spring of 1981 after changing its name to Ballet Oklahoma in 1980.
