Moscow Ballets Great Russian Nutcracker Information

Moscow Ballet is a Russian Ballet company that tours in the United States annually with its Great Russian Nutcracker production. Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is a folk tale and Christmas story. It is one of the well-known, charming, and beautiful ballets. The ballet is based on The Nutcracker and the Mouse King book written by E.T.A. Hoffman.

On December 18, 1982, it first appeared on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater of Russia. Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa designed the dances. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky writes the music. Valentin Fedorov designed the set.

Moscow Ballet toured the Great Russian Nutcracker to Orlando, New Haven, Washington DC, Syracuse, Ft Lauderdale, Baltimore, Reading, and Charleston WV in 1993.

The Nutcracker is the story of Clara, a young girl who dreams of a nutcracker doll-turned-prince, a Sugar Plum Fairy, and a Mouse King. It is one of the most charming and beautiful ballets.

In the early 19th century, ballet took place in Germany. A full-length production of Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker was performed in 1996 at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. South Carolina Educational Television documented it. The National Association for the Education of Young Children sponsored the performance.
