Little Miss Higgins Information
Jolene Higgins, better known as Little Miss Higgins, is a singer-songwriter from Canada who has performed as a solo act and as the frontwoman of the band Little Miss Higgins and the Winnipeg Five. She was raised in Brooks, Alberta, and Independence, Kansas, before meeting and marrying guitarist Foy Taylor and relocating to Nokomis, Saskatchewan. She took cues from the work of American blues singer Memphis Minnie when developing her persona onstage.
Before releasing her first full-length album, The Cobbler Shop Sessions, in 2005, she released an EP independently in 2002. In 2007, she released Junction City, nominated for the Juno Award the following year for Blues Album of the Year. After her breakup with Taylor and relocation to Winnipeg, Manitoba, she recorded the album Bison Ranch Recording Sessions as Little Miss Higgins and the Winnipeg Five with Western swing band The F-Holes in 2013.
The barn on bassist Patrick Leclerc's family property was transformed into a recording studio for the album. At the 2014 Juno Awards, Bison Ranch Recording Sessions was nominated for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year - Group. After the publication of her most recent album, My Home, My Heart, in 2017, Higgins was nominated for Solo Artist of the Year at the 14th Annual Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2018.
