Kansas City Ballet Information
The Kansas City Ballet (KCB) is a professional American ballet company. Its headquarters are in Kansas City, Missouri. Tatiana Dokoudovska created the company in 1957. Each season, the KCB puts on five main performances, including an annual staging of The Nutcracker. With 30 company dancers, 15-second company dancers, 64 full-time and part-time personnel, and a network of over 400 local volunteers, KCB reached a new peak in the 2016–2017 season.
The Todd Bolender Center for Dance and Creativity is a restored seven-studio office and rehearsal building in Kansas City, Missouri. The KCB, its school, and its employees are housed, operated from, and rehearsed. The company is the resident ballet company of the neighboring Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, which opened in September 2011 and is a performance facility in downtown Kansas City.
With his work Six Solos, a program presenting six solo works, Whitener received national recognition and a Dance Magazine cover article in the spring of 2002. KCB presented Merce Cunningham's Duets, as produced by Catherine Kerr, in February 2003 as part of a collaboration with Johnson County Community College, with Cunningham in attendance.
