Elizabeth Strout Information
Elizabeth Strout (January 6, 1956) is an American author and novelist. She was born in Portland, Maine. She is well-recognized for her literary fiction writing and her vivid character descriptions. Four of her seven novels, set in the fictional "Shirley Falls, Maine," are based on her childhood memories.
Amy and Isabelle, Strout's debut book, was widely praised by critics, became a bestseller, and was made into a film starring Elisabeth Shue. Although Abide with Me (2006) earned favorable reviews, it ultimately fell short of receiving the same attention as her first book. Strout created and released Olive Kitteridge in 2008, two years later, to critical and financial success, earning close to $25 million with more than one million copies sold as of May 2017.
A multi-Emmy Award-winning miniseries based on the novel also became a New York Times bestseller. She published The Burgess Boys (2013) five years later, and it quickly rose to national bestseller status. International praise and the top spot on the New York Times bestseller list were received by the 2016 publication My Name Is Lucy Barton. Later, Lucy Barton evolved into the protagonist of Anything is Possible, a book by Strout published in 2017. Olive, Again, the sequel to Olive Kitteridge, was released in 2019.
