Mikhail Varshavski (November 12, 1989) is a Russian-born American family medicine physician and internet personality professionally known as Doctor Mike. He was born in Saransk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. During high school, Varshavski earned the moniker "Doctor Mike" from many of his peers who went to him to treat sports-related ailments. Varshavski decided to get into medicine after watching his father connect with his patients.
He enrolled in NYIT, where he was admitted into a program leading to a bachelor's degree in life sciences and a medical degree in just seven years. Varshavski started using Instagram in early 2012 to share his experiences as a pre-med student.
When BuzzFeed released a story about Varshavski in August 2015 headlined "Um, You Really Need To See This Hot Doctor And His Dog," he became a media sensation due to the focus on his attractiveness and the close bond he shared with his husky, Roxy. Varshavski uses his online platforms to educate his generation about health and wellness. Varshavski presented a TEDx Talk at a TEDxMonteCarlo event in 2018 on the topic, "The plague of the 'I Know It All' expert," a year after he started his YouTube channel in 2017. There have been approximately 2 million views of the video of the speech.
