Dave Parsons Dance Company Information
Choreographer David Parsons formed Parsons Dance, a contemporary dance company. The company performs nationally and internationally, with a New York season every year. Parsons Dance was formed on July 17, 1985, in New York City, by David Parsons and lighting designer Howell Binkley. Parsons Dance has toured on six continents since its inception. Parsons Dance is the only dance company in history to perform at all three Spoleto Festivals (Italy, Australia, and the United States) in a single season.
Parsons Dance has traveled for 32 weeks per year since 1985, visiting over 235 cities, 30 countries, six continents, and millions of people. PBS, Bravo, A&E Network, and the Discovery Channel have all aired Parsons Dance. Millions of people witnessed Parsons Dance perform live in Times Square as part of the 24-hour Millennium New Year's Eve event aired throughout the world. The Joyce Theater, City Center, New Victory Theater, Central Park Summerstage, Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The World Trade Center have all hosted Parsons Dance in New York City.
There are nine full-time dancers in the company. It has over 80 works in its repertory. Twenty of them feature commissioned original soundtracks by composers and musicians such as Dave Matthews, Michael Gordon, Milton Nascimento, John Mackey, and Phil Woods. Julie Taymor, William Ivey Long, Annie Leibovitz, Donna Karan, and Alex Katz are among the artist's Parsons Dance has collaborated with.
